11/9-
Well I arrived safely in Frankfurt!!
Easily got through customs and baggage claim.
Then had to work out the German train system- not so simple! Unfortunately none of the machines were working so I had to wait in a bit of a line so then ask for the correct train ticket.
I then got off at the wrong station- too many "main stations" but it was okay it just meant an extra walk.
I then arrived at the apartment I would be staying at with my friends sister. We went out for lunch together and got to know one another... never have I ever stayed at someone's house I didn't know but hey that's what travel is all about. She was very nice!
I then made myself feel at home at her apartment. By the time I'd settled I'm I could not keep my eyes open so I ended up having an hours nap.
After that I got up and went for a walk at Grüneburg park and botanical gardens. It was very nice and lovely to see conkers again.
I then went to a supermarket and picked up some German sausages for a home cooked bangers and mash.
12/9- This morning I was up very early to make sure I caught my train to Offenburg just south of Frankfurt. I was going to meet my friend from my tour there so we could go to Europark together. I managed to get on the right train and it was very nostalgic to see the train was going to Switzerland and would stop in Thun which was often the train station I used when I lived in Switzerland for 3 months.
When I arrived my friend Kk was there to greet me and we got in her car and headed to the theme park.
Europark is a theme park that is Europe themed. It has all different sections with rides, restaurants and shows inspired by the countries in Europe. The rides were awesome!! I enjoyed the one Kk refused to go on because she got very ill on it last time.
The park was way too big to do in one day but we enjoyed a lot of the rides both big and small as well as an ice skating show. A lot of the rides we did got us quite wet but lucky it was a lovely sunny day.
The park has the mascot of a mouse so I am seriously surprised that Disney has not bought this park. But it was really nice and the Europe theme was pretty cool.
We then enjoyed a dinner and walk before I got on a late train back to her sisters apartment.
13/9-
I was up super early this morning to make sure I got my train to Berlin. My train was cancelled but luckily there was one 15 minutes later. The journey was around 4 hours which wasn't too bad.
When arriving in Berlin I made my way to the hotel I would be starting my Intrepid tour on, when the host at the hotel opened the door he asked me immediately if I was Australian, apparently we all go on Intrepid tours! I then headed straight out to explore Berlin. I got on the wrong train twice before I finally found the Berlin Wall memorial. It was very emotional to see the wall and hear the stories of those living on both sides of it. Such a big story in history.
I then walked some of the main streets to look at the artitechure in Germnay which was really interesting. I got to the Brandenburg Gate where a very big protest was going on.
I also saw the memorial for murdered Jews but unfortunately the musuem was closing just as I got there and I didn't have much time before the tour started.
