Friday the 2nd-
This morning we had a bit of a relaxed early morning before heading over to the Kangaroo Orphanage in Coober Pedy. We were hoping to see lots of joeys and maybe to be able to feed some. Unfortunately they only open to the public at 5pm. We did get to see one baby joey but he was very frightened. We then drove from Coober Pedy through Port Augusta to Chinaman's Creek in Winninowie. We didn't make many stops as we have done this drive before on the way up. We're heading into Quorn tomorrow to do one of the Flinders Ranges walks.
Saturday the 3rd-
It was a bit of a warm one today but we got up nice and early at dawn to drive through Quorn to the Dutchman's Stern hike. This was one of the Flinders Ranges walks that appealed to us the most. We ended up starting on the wrong walk so had to figure out which way was the right way before commencing the walk. I of course had a backpack sweat mark from the hike. We started with a big walk up to the highest point which had pretty amazing views all the way up and at the top. The top even had a little can with a book inside for people to document their walk which was pretty cool. We then started the decline which took a lot longer than we were expecting. It ended up being a 10km hike that I enjoyed a lot and was well worth it.
We then did the 4 hour drive to Adeliade where Judith went to the Gym, I enjoyed a nice read on the beach and we got to use the laundry.
Sunday the 4th- Beach Day!
Today we got up a bit later and made our way to Henley Beach. I was able to read my book, go swimming and relax after a busy few days and before embarking on the big journeh home. We enjoyed going out for dinner for the first and only time on the trip to a place called beach bum, I had a Hawaiian mocktail, Asian stir-fry and Mexican ice cream Taco. So good!!
Then in the evening we drove to Tintanara, where we stayed the night before making a big drive tomorrow.
Monday the 5th- Keith, Bordertown, Kaniva and Drive to the grampians.
We started with a short drive to Keith to see the Land Rover on a stick which is a huge part of the towns history. We then drove a bit futher into Bordertown where we did a short walk around the town, read its history and saw white kangaroos! Judith then enjoyed the gym whilst I read my book.
We stopped in Kaniva on the way to see the amazing Silo art and local school sheep art.
We then drove all the way into the Grampians where we started with the Mount Zero Hike. Around an 1.5 hour walk. It was very steep and had lots of rocks to climb. We then got to the top which was very high and made Judith and I quite nervous as we're both afraid of heights. Great to see a beautiful view in anyway.
On our way to the campsite I unfortunately had my one and only road accident hitting a wallaby, unfortunately it did not make it but my van has recently had a new light fitted!
Tuesday the 6th- Grampians hike.
Today we woke up quite early to start the pinnacle walk. 9.6kms Starting at Halls Gap, going through Venus baths, which were quite small and surrounded by a school group so we skipped that. Splitters falls, a lovely waterfall and "The Grand Canyon" (The Grampians eqivilant anyway) which were quite beautiful. We then reached the pinnacle after lots of rocks, inclines abd steps. The view was incredible and well worth the long walk. Then stairs and slopes all the way back down. Very tiring and made my muscles shake by the end!
We decided to stay the extra night at the campground and drive home tomorrow after a good night's rest.
7- Drive back home,
Got up mid-morning, packed up the van and set for home.
It's been an incredible trip and I can't wait for the next one!!
This week we drove 1,916kms, finishing my trip with a total distance of 9,456kms in my van!
